UCL Fantasy MD11 Semi Final Preview

Tuesday – Man City vs Real Madrid

UCL history

Man City have reached one UCL Final, one year again in which they lost to Chelsea. Their previous other European Final was in 1970, where they reached and won the Cup Winners’ Cup. They also lost in the 2016 UCL Semi-Final against Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are of course UCL’s most successful team ever, winning it a total of 13 times. Their last tournament win was in 2018, against Liverpool in Kyiv. They lost at the Semi-Final stage in 2020/21.

Head to head

The sides have met 6 times before, each team has won twice before, drawing the two other times.

City beat Real home and away in the 2019/20 UCL at the Last 16 stage.

Real have played 23 European games in England before, winning 7 times.

League form

City won 5-1 at home over the weekend, maintaining their 1-point lead over Liverpool in the Premier League. They are unbeaten at home in the UCL to date.

Real need 1 more point to win the La Liga. They are 15 points clear of Barcelona but the Catalonians have a better head to head record. Real’s last league game was on Wednesday so they have a 6-day rest going into this.

UCL Fantasy MD4 Differentials

  • The most owned City player is Cancelo (6.6) but he is suspended for MD11

  • City have kept 4 clean sheets in the knock-out rounds to date and Laporte (5.6) looks like a good choice, even though Dias (6.1) is back

  • Benzema (10.6) has 7 goals in 4 knock-out games to date, taking his tally to 12. He has 4 Player of the Match awards, the most of any player still left in the game
  • Vinicius Jr (8.9) is a sure starter for Real and already has 6 assists and 2 goals to date.
Differentials

UCL Fantasy MD3 Differentials

  • Jesus (8.6) was sublime over the weekend, but has only had 191 minutes of UCL action to date. He is owned by 2% of the game
  • A mere 4% owns Kroos (8.3) and he can be the differential player from Real. He has scored twice, both times from outside the box (2 more pts)

Wednesday – Liverpool vs Villarreal

UCL history

Liverpool have won the UCL / European Cup 6 times before, their last win was in 2019. They reach the quarter-finals last season.

This is furthest Villarreal have reached in UCL. They previously reached in the Semi in 2005/06, when they were knocked out by Arsenal. They are the defending Europa League winners, their only European trophy to date.

Head to head

The sides met in the 2015/16 Europa League; Liverpool winning 3-1 over two legs.

Liverpool have played Spanish sides 48 times before in Europe, winning 18 times.

Villarreal played English sides 21 times before, winning 6 times.

League form

Liverpool beat Everton 2-0 over the weekend with a full team to stay 1 point behind City.

Villarreal are 7th, 9 points behind in the Top 4 race with 5 games left. They rotated somewhat in their previous league game last Tuesday (19th Apr) and won 2-0.

Must have Players

Liverpool have several heavily selected players.

UCL Fantasy MD10 Preview

  • Salah (11.2) is the most owned at this stage (44%). He has 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 league games, but have not contributed since MD7 in UCL.
  • Alexander-Arnold (6.9) is owned by 37% but all of his 3 attacking returns (3 assists) came in the Group Stages
  • Robinson (6.6) proved to be a differential FPL pick, scoring over the weekend and can be a good pick here
  • Diaz (8.3) came on as a sub over the weekend and enjoyed a bumper MD9. He may prove crucial here again

Villarreal, already an unfancied side to be still in the competition, will not provide many UCL Fantasy picks.

  • Danjuma (7.6) is a regular feature since the Group Stages, he is the third highest scoring player left (64)
Differentials
