UCL Fantasy MD10 Preview

Real Madrid v Chelsea (3-1)

First Leg

Benzema scored a wonderful hattrick at Stamford Bridge to help Madrid to a comfortable 3-1 away win. Chelsea has all to do here, even without the away goal rule, they have to score two unanswered goals at the Bernabau to stay in the tie.

Head to head (before MD9)

Chelsea met Real Madrid once before, in the semi-final of the 2020/21 UCL. They won 3:1 on aggregate.

Overall, their record against Spanish oppositions stand at 14W 15D 7L in 36 meetings.

Real’s record over English sides stand at 13 W 8D 8L in 29 meetings.

Weekend results

Real won 2-0 against Getafe over the weekend to maintain a healthy 12 point lead in La Liga with just 7 games left.

Chelsea won 6-0 at Southampton to solidify their 3rd spot in the Premier League.

Players to watch

UCL Fantasy MD9 Preview

For Real, they have been very consistent all season.

  • Benzema (10.5m) now has 82 career goals in the UCL; this is his best season ever (11). He is hard to ignore even when Real has a comfortable lead.
  • Alaba (6.1m) is a certain starter, his price is expensive, but is a good Real asset to have for this MD and going forward.

Chelsea will have to attack Real from the onset, which makes interesting reading.

  • Havertz (9.3m) has 13 goals to date this season and is a listed midfielder who starts as a false nine.
  • Mount (7.4m) has yet to score in UCL this term but was on target twice over the weekend.
  • Jorginho (6.7m) remains Chelsea’s top UCL Fantasy scorer (49). A budget choice who takes penalties if he is on the pitch.

Bayern vs Villarreal (0-1)

First Leg

Villarreal produced the shock result of the round, winning 1-0 from a Danjuma goal in the 8th minute. It was Villarreal’s only shot on target throughout the game. Bayern fared poorly, managing just 4 shots on target.

Head to head (before MD9)

Villarreal met Bayern 11 years ago in the Group Stages of UCL, losing both games. They have never met any other German oppositions in the competition.

Bayern have met Spanish teams in UCL for 48 times – 25W 8D 15L.

Weekend results

Bayern needed a late penalty to beat Ausburg at home. They are however, now 9 pts clear with just 5 games left in Bundesliga.

Villarreal drew Bilbao 1-1 to remain 7th in La Liga. They also rested several of their key assets.

Players to watch

Bayern have to score.

  • Lewandowski (12.5m) is the fulcrum of all Bayern attacks. He is owned by 51% of the game and already has 12 goals
  • Sule (5.8m) is Bayern’s top UCL Fantasy defender.
  • Muller (9.9m) could be a strong differential. He is only owned by 7% of the game but you feel this is the type of games he relishes.
  • Neuer (6.4m) is expensive, but a good choice for this game and going forward.

Villarreal will try to keep it very tight.

  • Danjuma (7.4m) remains a good option, he already has 62pts. He also scored on MD9.
  • Rulli (5.1) is a cheap option on the first calendar day. His clean sheet on MD9 was certainly a surprise.

Atletico vs Man City (0-1)

First Leg

Atletico Madrid went to the Etihad with one clear objective – to keep a clean sheet. They were close to achieving that until a late De Bruyne goal secured the win for City.

Head to head (before MD9)

Both sides have never met before in any European competition.

City’s record against Spanish sides in the UCL is 7W 2D 7L in 16 games.

Atletico’s record against English sides is 5W 7D 6L in 18 games.

Weekend results

Man City played to a 2-2 draw against Liverpool over the weekend to maintain their 1pt lead at the top of the Premier League.

Atletico played poorly and lost 1-0 at Mallorca. They are now on 57 pts in fourth, 15 behind Real Madrid.

Players to watch

Man City is unlikely to sit back. They are likely to dominate possession and press the home side from the onset.

  • Cancelo (6.6m) bagged an assist over the weekend and will no doubt start again here. He is UCL Fantasy’s top scoring defender with 56pts
  • Mahrez (9.7m) only made a cameo over the weekend and is the current City top scorer in UCL (6)
  • Foden (8.2m) made the difference in the first leg and may get a start this MD

Atletico have to come out of their shells this MD so some of their attacking assets make good picks.

  • Mandava (5.8m) is Atletico’s top scoring defender. He has 66 ball recoveries, 8 more than the next player.
  • Felix (9.0m) is a listed midfielder but he plays upfront with Griezmann. He is enjoying his best season as an Atletico player, with already 11 goals to his name
  • Griezmann (10.4m) is Atletico’s top scorer in the competition with 4 goals

Liverpool vs Benfica (3-1)

First Leg

Liverpool was dominant in the first leg. Konate and Mane scored in the first half. Nunez cut the deficit early in the second, but a late Diaz goal means Liverpool returns to Anfield with a 2-goal lead.

Head to head (before MD9)

Benfica have won the 2 games they had played against Liverpool in the UCL.

Overall, Benfica’s record against English sides is 3W 2D 7L in 12 matches.

Liverpool’s record against Portuguese sides stand at 6W 4D 2L in 12 matches. They have won in Portugal 3 times before in UCL, all at Porto.

Weekend results

Jota and Mane were on target for Liverpool in their 2-2 draw at City; they remain 1 pt behind with 7 games to go.

Benfica beat bottom side Belenenses 3-1 over the weekend but are entrenched in 3rd, 13 pts off the top. Nunez scored a hattrick.

FPL GW23 Stats

Liverpool is likely to be in full strength, given that their weekend fixture is the FA Cup.

  • Diaz (8.1m) is a strong contender to start. He loves playing against Benfica and had 1 goal and 1 assist in the First Leg (+POTM)
  • Alexander-Arnold (6.8m) had an assist over the weekend and is always a good bet
  • With more attention on Salah, Mane (10.4m) makes a great differential at just 3% ownership. He has 3 goals and 1 assist in UCL to date.

Not many options from Benfica given their impending exit.

  • Nunez (7.9m) is the top budget differential forward. He has 5 goals from his last 2 UCL games.
