COVID is once again wrecking havoc to the Premier League fixtures.

Our panel gathers to pick this week’s captain.

Salah, as per usual, but with the threat of Covid postponements back on the table I’ll be picking a vice captain from a different match to my captain. This week my VC will be Gündogan.

Truth be told, even if Salah has not been consistently explosive, he has been very consistent. Captaining him week in week out saves you from a captaincy blanking. He has my armband again this GW.

The only alternative I would consider ins Ronaldo, who has a good fixture at home against Norwich this weekend.

Salah…because it looks like I don’t have any other players. =(

Salah again. Injuries and uncertainty over many other players are starting to creep in too. The one constant has been Salah. He has almost always delivered and at anfield you can expect him to do so again.

There is an alternative to captaincy points other than Salah.

In the last 5 gameweeks Salah has scored 40 points. In the same period of time with me selecting attacking full backs (Reece James & TAA), they returned a total of 42 points. I am sticking with Trent Alexander-Arnold for captaincy again, often playing as a second winger and on corners and free kicks as well as the clean sheet potential, I will be hoping for differential pay offs yet again.

Mo Salah, best in the business – not much more to say.

It’s always risky betting against Mo but an in-form Villa have 3 wins in 4 and a creditable 2-1 loss to MCI under Gerrard.

Meanwhile Ronaldo has Norwich, a full week’s rest and a competent coach who is fully backing him. I didn’t cap Ronaldo v Watford because I didn’t believe in Ole – I believe in Rangnick. (C)R7 for me this week.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the United legend is gonna be my captaincy choice for this GW.

He has been playing really well this season, both in UCL and PL and looked a lot more dangerous with the high-pressing under the new manager, Rangnick. He’s up against Norwich, the worst defensive team this season. His underlying numbers are also really good with 6 goals and 2 assists in 8 games with a xG/90 of 0.64 and xA/90 of 0.14 with 4.18 Sh/90.

I’m going to say an underrated differential, but I feel like Joshua King is going to bang this weekend. Against a Brentford side lacking in clean sheets since Raya’s injury, Watford’s goalscoring front three will feast. Dennis is a viable pick as well, but penalty duties boosts King’s chances of goals.

Mo Salah has scored 4 goals and 1 assist in 5 Premier League games against Aston Villa. His great scoring record against Villa combined with his league-leading 13 goals and 9 assists this season, make him the quintessential captaincy choice!

In a week where there will be plenty of risky hits, I recommend playing it safe and captaining Salah with his 73.1 % ownership and his 198% effective ownership. This will be even more important since every point counts this GW as the knockout rounds of the largest FPL Cup in history (8.38 Million) will begin and all managers should have a look at their opponents’ team and captaincy history for a slight edge.

For those with the risk appetite for differential captains then Ronaldo (v Norwich) , Vardy (v Newcastle), Bernardo Silva (v Wolves), Mount (v Leeds) are all great alternative armband shouts.
