FPL GW08 Wildcard

GW08 marks the restart of FPL after the October International Break.

This is a good chance to hit that Wildcard, to capture the Chelsea fixture swing.

FPL GW08 Wildcard

Goalkeepers

Ederson (MCI | 6.0) – The decision to go with a premium GK is not one lightly taken. Man City have already kept 5 clean sheets and always look likely to do so against teams which they can dominate possession against. Ederson is nailed on, every game, as long as he is fit and available. He may miss GW08 due to late travelling in from South America but on the wildcard, he is the GK to have.

Foster (WAT | 4.0) – At his price range, there is not another GK who will get more game time than Foster. He will likely to have to play on GW08 (against Liverpool) but going forward, he makes a good bench GK.

Defenders

UCL Fantasy MD11 Captain

Duffy (BHA | 4.3) – Duffy a steal at his price. He has already accumulated 3 clean sheets and 1 goal to date and no other defender has taken more shots on goal (4) than him. Brighton plays Norwich on GW8 but Man City and Liverpool are after that but Duffy is a season keeper.

Azpilicueta (CHE | 6.1) – With their fixtures over the next 5 games, Chelsea defenders are must haves. However, Tuchel do deploy significant rotation. Club Captain Azpilicueta has started 6 of their 7 games and has 3 assists to his name. He is also versatile and can play right wing back, making him the best pick from the Blues.

Tierney (ARS | 4.9) – Arsenal have turned their season back on track and have 3 winnable home games coming up – against Palace, Villa and Watford. Tierney is by the most attacking of Arsenal defenders and has attempted 9 times more crosses than any other Arsenal defender (29 to 3).

Cancelo (MCI | 6.2) – As mentioned above, we can expect City clean sheets to come in the upcoming game weeks. Cancelo has been nailed on to date, mainly because of his versatility to play at left and right back. He already has 2 assists and has a xG of 0.75.

Dias (MCI | 6.1) – Dias is another nailed on player for City to date, playing every minute of every game so far. The City double / triple up in defence has the potential to turn seasons around over the next few weeks.

Midfielders

Best FPL Midfielders

Gallagher (CRY | 5.7) – With 2 goals and 3 assists, Gallagher is a great pick at his price point. He is also the orchestrator behind most of Palace’s set-plays except penalties, so we can expect a flurry of assists at some point.

Raphinha (LEE | 6.6) – the below is borrowed from our GW07 Wildcard pick, but they still apply:

  1. He costs just £6.5m
  2. Leeds have endured a difficult start to the season, having played United, Liverpool and West Ham
  3. Leeds’ upcoming fixtures are about as good as it gets.

Mbeumo (BRE | 5.5) – Mbeumo is one of the few OOP players this season. The listed midfielder is center-forward with Toney in the Brentford formation.

Townsend (EVE | 5.6) – Townsend is one of the three Everton midfielders performing well as the Toffees continue to miss Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. He has already scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists and is the deputy penalty taker. Until Calvert-Lewin returns fully fit, Townsend is a great choice.

Salah (LIV | 12.6) – With 6 goals and 4 assists, Salah is leading the FPL scoring charts after another sensational start to the season. He is fixture-proof and probably a captain candidate every game.

Forwards

Hwang (WOL | 5.6) – Hwang fits the mold of a budget forward perfectly right now. He has already scored 3 times in just 4 appearances and will be hard to drop.

Antonio (WHU | 7.7) – The West Ham forward started the season with with 4 goals and 4 assists in the first 3 games but has slowed down recently. The good thing about him is that he has recently decided to focus his career with the Hammers instead of joining Jamaica, so the chances of his injuries are lowered. This could turn out to be a great season for Antonio.

Lukaku (CHE | 11.7) – The Belgian forward is currently flagged for a muscle injury but over the course of the next 5 gameweeks, he is a must have. We can expect him to bully defenders from lesser teams and get back into scoring form.
