FPL Team Preview Man City
Manchester City won the Premier League last season and start this season as the bookmakers’ favourite to retain their title.
FPL Team Preview Man City
2020/21 Premier League Season
Manchester City won their 5th Premier League title with 12 points ahead of the second-placed Manchester United.
City won 27 matches and lost just 6 in the whole season after scoring 83 and conceding 32 goals. They kept 19 clean-sheets with their xG (Expected goals) being 60.78 and xGA (Expected goals against) being 19.40 . Their defence bossed most of the games and will look forward to continue doing the same.
Kevin De Bryune (10.0 | MID) will be the main attacking threat for the team.
He missed 13 games last season but scored 6 and assisted 12 goals in his 25 appearances. He has one of the best xG+A/90 (Expected goals + assists) of 0.94 and took 3.63 shots per game last season.
He will also take most of the set-pieces including (some) penalties (not confirmed yet) which makes him one of our key picks. He is currently owned by 15.8% fantasy managers.
Ederson (6.0 | GK) is City’s number 1.
If you fancy splurging on your GK, he can be a select-and-forgive sort of GK to trust for the entire season. He kept 19 clean-sheets last season in his 37 appearances, winning the Golden Glove.
He is not expected to rake up the saves, but his clean sheet ratio is too high to ignore. He is probably the only City player that is nailed on from GW01.
Phil Foden (8.0 | MID) had 9 goals and 5 assists in his 28 appearances last season with an average of 2.94 for Sh/90. He is only second to De Bryune in xG+A/90 of 0.61 in the current City squad.
The issue with Foden is of course Pep Roulette. The English midfielder was on the matchday squad for all 38 GWs but started just 17 times last season, coming off the bench 11 times.
Riyad Mahrez (9.0 | MID) has been mentioned as a player likely to start regularly during the early gameweeks.
The rationale is simple – while many other City players suffered further exertions over Euro 2020 or Copa America, Mahrez enjoyed a good summer off. The rationale is logical, but it is always difficult to second-guess Pep.
He scored 9 goals and assisted 8 in his 27 appearances last time. He can get some set-pieces and has the potential to take penalties too. He had an average of 0.57 of xG+A/90 last season and was third in that from the City’s squad. He has a total of 62 goals and 59 assists so far in the Premier League.
Ruben Dias (6.0 | DEF) was the best defender for City last season and claiming 142 FPL points. Other than Ederson, Dias is probably the next most nailed on player for City.
He is currently owned by 26% of managers who have faith on him.
Ilkay Gundogan (7.5 | MID) was City’s top scorer last season scoring 13 goals. He also had 2 assists to his name. 11 of those goals came in a trailblazing spell of 12 games between mid-December and mid-February. He faded towards the tail-end of the season and also lost some game time when City began to wrap up their title.
Gundogan does not take set-pieces and last season was his best in terms of goals in his long club career, it would be remarkable if you repeat his feat.
There have been a lot of rumours but City have yet to confirm any major signing to date.

When City is on form, FDR do not matter to them as they can dominate any team, home or away.
City will make a few more major acquisitions and it will take a few more weeks before FPL managers can start to understand how City will line up.
