Top FPL Budget Defenders

Every team need a couple of  budget defenders, the idea is to pick a budget defender who plays regularly and can readily come off your bench when required.

We analysed some of the best defenders priced 4.5 and below this season.

FPL Budget Defenders

Coady (WOL | 4.5)

FPL International Round-Up Oct 2020

Among all the FPL defenders priced 4.5 and below, Coady had the highest points last season (105). In terms of being nailed on, Coady is second to none – he has only missed one game in the last three seasons.

In terms of attacking returns, Coady offers next to nothing. He has 1 top flight goal in his career and took a total of 7 shots last season, just 2 of them on term.

Coady is definitely not a sexy FPL pick at any stage, with very limited upside.

Holding (ARS | 4.5)

For a 4.5 defender, Holding made a lot appearances for Arsenal – 30 in all. Arsenal were defensively sound, he had 10 clean sheets under his belt .

Like Coady, Holding offers very in terms of attacking returns. He has played 69 games in the Premier League without a goal.

Again, not a very sexy option in FPL with very little upside.

White (ARS | 4.5)

White arrives at Arsenal on a hefty price tag. He is very likely to go straight into the Arsenal XI.

He played 36 times for Brighton last season, amassing 104 FPL points.

As a center-back, he top 10 shots last season and only had 1 on target. He has 4 goals in nearly 200 games in his career and is unlikely to offer much.

Ayling (LEE | 4.5)

Top FPL Defenders

Ayling makes an interesting pick at 4.5. He played all 38 games and had 12 clean sheets. Even without any goals and assists, he amassed 100 FPL points.

However, his attacking statistics are healthy. He had a total of 24 shots  and 6 on target. He also had 70 touches in the opposition box – the most for any defender priced 4.5 and below.

In a nutshell, Ayling has the potential for attacking returns and was perhaps unlucky last term. In a side like Leeds, he looks good to have attacking returns.

Veltman (BHA | 4.5)

Veltman is another interesting pick with some upside potential. With Lamptey out of action in the early weeks, Veltamn is expected to be the first choice right back for Brighton.

Last season, he scored once and had 14 shots.

Brighton have two respectable games to start – Burnley at home then Watford away. Veltman can be a great shot for the early GWs.

Ait Nouri (WOL | 4.5)

Another potential juicy FPL pick is Ait Nouri. The French left back started just 16 games last season, amassing 54 FPL points.

He is a versatile player and has played on the left wingback.

Wolves would be under a new system under a new manager this season but given some of the pre-season games, there could a good chance Ait Nouri could feature on GW01.

Statistically, Ait Nouri does not have the history – he returned just 1 goal and 1 assist last term. That said, he could be worth a punt on the early gameweeks.

Amartey (LEI | 4.0)

Fofana has attracted considerable attention for GW01 but he suffered a broken leg just weeks before the season.

This perhaps will pave the way for Amartey, who started as the centerback partner for Soyuncu in the Community Shield.

Leicester is out in the market to hunt for a new centerback but that takes time, making Amartey a good pick in the early gameweeks.
