5 Teams with the best start
Our good mates at Homeground looks at 5 teams with easy fixtures to start their 2021/22 Premier League campaign.
5 Teams with the best start
A week to the kick-off of the new season of FPL and we are going to look at the teams which have the best fixtures list from GW1 to GW5.
When we pick our GW01 team, we always focus on the fixtures list as one of the main selection criteria. The easier fixtures a team has, the more likely we would select a player from that said team.
Teams generally have at least 2 favourable fixtures in the first 5 GWs.
Some teams should be avoided as they have only a single favourable fixture, or none at all.
Take the example of Crystal Palace, with Patrick Viera as their new manager. They have Chelsea(A), West Ham(A), Tottenham(H) and Liverpool(A) in their first 5 fixtures. You could almost expect them to be in the relegation zone by GW05.
We have compiled a data below on which teams have the best possible starts and this data is based on last season’s result between the teams.
For promoted teams, the data would be based on if they are favourites in the tie.
|GW1||GW2||GW3||GW4||GW5||Possible GS fixtures||Possible clean sheets|
|SOU (H)||LEE (A)||BHA (A)||BUR (H)||AVL (A)||5||3(1,2,3)|
|NOR (A)||BUR (H)||CHE (H)||LEE (A)||CRY (H)||5||3(1,2,5)|
|MCI||TOT (A)||NOR (H)||ARS (H)||LEI (A)||SOU (H)||5||
|MUN||LEE (H)||SOU (A)||WOL (A)||NEW (H)||WHU (A)||5||
|WHU||NEW (A)||LEI (H)||CRY (H)||SOU (A)||MUN (H)||5||
We found 5 teams with goal scoring records against their opponent last season. Coincidentally, these 5 teams have kept 3 clean sheets in 5 fixtures against those same opponents.
After having their first-choice defenders injured for the majority of last season, the Reds will be looking to put on a strong start, and it seems like their first 5 fixtures are all winnable. We can expect Salah (12.5) and Mane (12.0) to get some goals in the opening fixture against Norwich and carry that form into their next few games.
Champions League winning Chelsea and Leeds are their only real threats in those 5 fixtures and although clean sheets might not be easy to achieve in those games, Robertson (7.0) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.5) will be able to continue to provide assists through all games.
As with Liverpool, Man city are expected to score in all 5 games and possibly keep 3 clean sheets.
However, we can expect Pep roulette to be in full swing this season too, especially since Man City had the highest number of players involved in the Copa America and Euros.
The only possible suggestion for nailed on City players are De Bruyne (12.0) and Dias (6.0). If differentials are what you’re looking for, then Mahrez (9.0), Jesus (8.5) and Cancelo (6.0) are the ones you should be looking at.
Solskjaer will be looking to challenge for the title this season as shown in his intent with the transfers thus far with Sancho (9.5) announced and Varane set to join.
With his amazing form in the Euros, Shaw (5.5) will look to continue his hot streak and surpass Trent and Robertson from Liverpool this season. He might still not be 100% fit on GW01, so Wan-Bissaka (5.5) could also be a good option.
In the attacking department, there is only one real candidate in the likes of Fernandes (12.0), who scored a massive 244 FPL points last season. Greenwood (7.5) could possibly start every game as he has done with all the preseason games thus far, with Cavani (8.5) being the only real contender to his spot as Rashford (9.5) is out injured.
The differential option here could possibly be Lingard (7.0) who had revitalized his career at West Ham last season and has been involved in all the preseason games thus far.
Everton did not really have the best of campaigns in 20/21 season despite a good start under Carlo Ancelotti.
Calvert-Lewin (8.0), Richarlison (7.5) and James (7.0) combined to give them 13 goals in their opening 5 fixtures, winning 4 out of the 5.
They have a new manager in Rafa Benitez and have somewhat easier fixtures than the rest of the teams vying a spot for the top 6 in the league. The above-mentioned trio will be the most sought-after players in the Everton side with DCL now boasting a 27% ownership. Richarlison’s Brazil, however, reached the Olympic Final so is unlikely to make it back in time to start on GW01.
Richarlison’s presumed absence may open doors for their their new acquisition from Leicester, Gray (5.5). It is interesting to see if the winger can fit into squad – he scored a penalty in their first preseason game.
Over in defence, Digne (5.5) and Coleman (5.0) will look to maraud down the flanks as usual. With Digne on set pieces as well, it gives him the added advantage over Coleman. Keane (5.0) is another interesting option as he was the highest scoring Everton defender last season.
With a possibility of them scoring in all 5 games including another home game against Manchester United, Antonio (7.5) will be a prime target for most FPL managers. Cresswell (5.5) did well last season with 153 points and finished his campaign in 3rd place amongst defenders. Coufal (5.0) is the cheaper option.
Soucek (6.0) is another serious candidate to consider together with their winger Bowen (6.5).
All West Ham assets can offer good return at affordable prices.
