FPL Team Preview West Ham
West Ham were just exceptional last season as they finished on 6th place to secure a ticket to Europa League.
This is more so impressive, after a horrible 2019/20 season where they finished in 16th place.
FPL Team Preview West Ham
2020-21 Premier League Season
West Ham won 19 and lost 11 games last season.
For this, they scored 62 and conceded 47 goals – only 5 teams had scored more than West Ham.
Overall, they were the second-best team in the league at home last season (to City).
They won 4 games in a row at the turn of the year, setting the scene for their good finish. They were never lower than 7th since after GW20.
Jesse Lingard, who enjoyed a sensational loan spell (9 goals | 4 assists) at the club, has since returned to his parent club.
Aaron Cresswell (5.5 | DEF) had the most number of assists last season with 11. He was the third highest scoring FPL defender.
He has an xA/90 of 0.21 which is really good considering his price. West Ham also kept 11 clean-sheets last season.
He took 86 corners for West Ham last season. He is currently owned by 19.2% managers.
Valdimir Coufal (5.0 | DEF) also enjoyed a great season at right-back. He accumulated 9 assists and had 12 BPS. He ranked 7th (for a defender) with 45 attempted assists.
The Coufal vs Cresswell debate will again be a hot topic this season.
Michail Antonio (7.5 | FWD) impressed last season, he scored 10 goals for the second consecutive season. He also registered 5 assists to his name with 2.74 Sh/90. He has an xG/90 of 0.64 with xA/90 of 0.14 on an average.
Without significant signings, we can expect Antonio to continue to lead the line for the Hammers.
Tomas Soucek (6.0 | MID) was the joint top scorer at West Ham with 10 goals in the league. He took the most shots as a West Ham player (64) and had the second most on target (23).
He played every single minute of the season last time (he was sent off in the 90th minute of a game, but the red card was later rescinded).
His price had been increased this season, so he would be less of an enabler, but at 6.0, he still offers great value for what he offers from set-pieces.
West Ham have made no significant signings, except for making Dawson’s move permanent.
First Five Fixtures
Leicester and Man Utd make two tough home games in the first 5 GWs but the Hammers do have winnable games against Newcastle, Palace and Southampton.
If West Ham play as well as they did last season then assets like Cresswell, Coufal and Soucek are definitely worth having. However, with Europa League also on the cards, it would be interesting if they bring in more players over the summer.
