FPL Team Preview Man Utd

Man Utd finished second last season, their joint-highest finish since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

FPL Team Preview Man Utd

2020-21 Premier League Season

In many aspects, there were a lot of positives to take from Man Utd’s season.

They did start the season with two shock home defeats to Palace and Spurs but recovered by early November. They strung together a run of 1 defeat in 28 league games and managed to stay undefeated away from home all season.

They were never lower than the top 2 after GW13 and comfortably eased into their second placed finish, even though they were 12 points off City.

Top Players

Fernandes (MID | 12.0) was second in most attacking statistics last term – goals (18), total shots (121) and shots on target (51). He was only behind Salah in those three categories. He had the most FPL assists for a midfielder (14) and attempted most assists (95). He was also FPL’s top player with 244 points in what was his first full season in the Premier League.

All these attributed to his price calibration to 12.0, making him the second most expensive player in the game, behind only Salah and Kane.

All said, it was a season without a trophy for Fernandes, who also endured a poor Euro 2020 with Portugal exiting early and him barely getting minutes.

Wan-Bissaka (DEF | 5.5) was United’s top performing defender in FPL. He earned 13 clean sheets, scored 2 goals and provided 5 assists to accumulate 144pts, which is fourth overall for a defender too.

He was overlooked by England for Euro 2020, meaning that he had enjoyed a good rest and had a proper pre-season.

Euro Fantasy MD6 Stats

Shaw (DEF | 5.5), on the other hand, went to the Euros and cemented his spot as England’s number one left-back. He was brilliant for his nation, scoring in the Final as well.

His exploits in Euro 2020 had not gone unnoticed, he is currently FPL’s most owned defender at ~40%. He is, however, carrying a rib injury and more information is needed to assess if he will start on GW01.

Lingard (MID | 7.0) stands out with his FPL contributions last season (106pts) but of course all of those points were scored when he was on loan at West Ham, where he was a sensation. His goal return of 9 goals and 5 assists was his best ever in the Premier League.

The huge question is where would Lingard be on GW01. If he stays, he faces steep competition to make the first XI. If he leaves again on loan, he would be great value at 7.0 for any mid-table season.

Cavani (FWD | 8.5)‘s exploits in his first season at United is definitely worth mentioning. He scored 10 goals and had 4 assists in just 26 appearances (13 of which are off the bench). He looks like a threat every time he plays.

New Signings

Sancho (MID | 9.5) is easily the most hotly followed transfer of the summer. Even though he has no Premier League experience under his belt, his statistics for Dortmund had been amazing – 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 appearances. He is expected to be in action immediately and make an instant impact. Expectations are sky-high for the 21-year-old.

First Five Fixtures

Like Everton, United have one best starts to the season in terms of fixture difficulties. Their first five fixtures are those in which they have won last season and it would not be much of a surprise if they start with five wins on the trot.

Their opening fixture is particular juicy – the same fixture last year was a 6-2 win for United.

Most FPL teams on GW01 will feature at least 1 player from United. Their first five fixtures are very enticing. The question is which United player to choose.

Fernandes will be highly owned. His spot kick duties means that he is always likely to get opportunities to haul. He is probably the safest pick on GW01.

Shaw and Wan-Bissaka are hotly popular as well.

With Rashford likely to out for the start of the season, more attention will turn to Sancho, who is expected to start on GW01. As with all new signings, the conservatives like us will take a few more weeks to assess him as an FPL asset.
