FPL Team Preview Liverpool

Liverpool finished third last season.

They have been relatively quiet in the the transfer market but eyes would be on the FPL assets coming back from long term injuries.

FPL Team Preview Liverpool

2020-21 Premier League Season

Tipsy-turvy is perhaps the best term to describe Liverpool’s 2020/21 Premier League season.
They suffered a heavy loss at Aston Villa early in the season, went on a great run of staying 12 games unbeaten then suffered 6 home losses in a row, before clinching third place with 5 wins in a row.
All this was achieved dispute losing key players like van Dijk, Gomez, Henderson and Jota at various points in the season.

Salah (MID | 12.5) enjoyed another sensational season with the Reds. Statistically, he was second best in most attacking fields only to Kane – goals (22), shots (126) and shots on target (52). He is again the most expensive player in this season’s FPL.
Salah’s partner-in-crime Mane (MID | 12.0) admittedly had a poor season, but still managed to rake up 11 goals and 11 assists. Overall, his tally of 176 points was the 8th best in FPL.
FPL GW36 Differentials
Chances are very few FPL teams will have the resource and the appetite to double up on Salah and Mane – the natural choice would be Salah, given his statistical advantage and his taking of set-pieces. This is clearly reflected in the TSB, with Salah closing in on ~50% and Mane standing at a mere 3%.
Jota (MID | 7.5) will be seen by many as a cheap “cover” for Salah, given his price and the fact that he is often played upfront. Jota played just 19 times last season (7 times off the bench) and managed 9 goals and 26 shots on target. The stats make good reading if you extrapolate them to 38 games, but at this point it is not clear how many minutes the Portuguese will get in a fully fit Liverpool side.

Alexander-Arnold (DEF |7.5) is once again FPL’s most premium defender. His haul of 160 FPL points last season was actually his worst tally since establishing himself as a regular in the 2018/19 season. For a defender, he had the second most shots on target (12) last season and had the highest xG at 2.75.

FPL GW13 Stats

Robertson (DEF | 7.0) is just 0.5 cheaper and actually had more FPL points (161) than Alexander-Arnold (160). For attacking stats, he pales in comparison when it comes to shots, xG and xA.

van Dijk (DEF | 6.5) played just 5 games for the Reds last season but is expected to be fit for the start of the season after a lengthy rehabilitation process which included missing Euro 2020. His TSB is high, nearing 10% but more cautious FPL managers would wait to see how he will cope with the pace of the league after missing for such a long time.

The question is probably which Liverpool defensive asset to pick. Robertson stands out for us, enabling a 0.5 savings and offering almost as much as his partner Alexander-Arnold.

FPL GW38 Stats

Alisson (GK | 6.0) is one of the three GKs to be priced at 6.0. Injuries and a patchy form meant that he only had 140 FPL points last term, 7th best in the league. Suffice to say, the Brazilian will have to work harder this season to justify his price. That said, he was also the ONLY GK to score last season.

New Signings

The Reds’ solitary signing to date is 22-year-old Konate (DEF | 5.5). He French U21 captain arrived from RB Leipzig where he was not a regular, starting just 8 games in the Bundesliga last season.

Interestingly, he was on the bench for both games in the Champions League Last 16 against Liverpool.

Konate will likely take time to break into the Liverpool team, there is not much chance of him starting on GW01 barring any injuries.

Except for Chelsea on GW03, Liverpool have good fixtures. They will be clear favourites for 3 points against Norwich, Burnley, Leeds and Palace. Things get tougher on GW07 for them, when they player Man City at home then travel to Old Trafford on GW09.

Almost every FPL team will have at least one Liverpool asset on GW01. Some teams are likely to have three.

The question is which Liverpool asset to go for.

We don’t have an answer at this stage of the season – watch this space when we get into gear to look at GW01!
