FPL Team Preview Leicester City
On a positive note, Leicesterfinished on the fifth spot for the second consecutive year. On a negative one, the Foxes once against missed out on Champions League qualification, painfully on the final day of the season.
FPL Team Preview Leicester City
2020/21 Premier League Season
Leicester won 20 games and lost 12 games in the season. They scored 68 goals – Only the two Manchester sides had scored more but defensively, they conceded 50 goals – the most among all the teams who finished in the top 8.
They were never lower than 4th for 36 gameweeks before a poor run of one win in their final five games consigned them to fifth.
They did win the FA Cup but in truth, it was yet another bitterly disappointing season for Brendan Rodgers and his troops.
Jamie Vardy (10.5 | FWD) ended the season with 15 goals (9 penalties) and 14 assists in his 34 appearances.
This was his 6th consecutive year with 12+ goals. In terms of assists, it was his most fruitful ever on 14.
Statistically, he had an xG/90 of 0.63 and xA/90 of 0.51 last season with 2.59 Shots/90. He is the main penalty taker for his side. He also possess the uncanny ability to win penalties – he won 5 for Leicester last season, the joint top in the team.
He has yet to attract the attention of FPL managers to date (~9% TSB), mainly because of his age, concern about his game time and Leicester’s FDR for the first few GWs.
Kelechi Iheanancho (7.5 | FWD) was the Foxes’ breakout player last season. He only became a regular in March, went on to score 14 and assisted 3 goals in the 15 matches. His goal scoring form prompted Rodgers to tweak formation to allow the team to play two out-and-out forwards.
He has the most number of Sh/90 in the Leicester squad (3.66). He made 1.74 KP/90 which is considered decent for a forward. He had the second best xG/90 in the whole season behind Gareth Bale. His xG/90 was 0.56 and xA/90 was 0.22.
He is currently owned by 14.1% managers.
James Maddison (7.0 | MID) can be one of the bargain midfielders this season. He had 15 goal involvements last season with 8 goals and 7 assists. in 31 appearances.
He took 3.14 Shots/90. His xG/90 and xA/90 was brilliant too as he had xG/90 of 0.19 and xA/90 of 0.21.
He also packs a good shot from direct freekicks – last season he attempted 13, the most among all Leicester players.
Wesley Fofana (4.5 | DEF | LEI) is a Leicester player attracting FPL attention. His current TSB stands at ~25%, down from a high of almost 50% during the first week of FPL Launch.
The young French defender started 27 games last season and is expected to be nailed on to start on GW01. He however offers little in terms of attacking returns. In his senior career, he has just 2 goals and 1 assist in nearly 70 games.
At the same price range is Brighton’s Lamptey, who has since been confirmed as unfit for the start of GW01.
Leicester have done their business quick and early in the summer.
Daka (7.5 | FWD) has attracted the most attention. The Zambian forward is a prolific scorer at RV Salzburg, with 68 appearances in 125 appearances. He is also the current Austrian Bundesliga player of the year.
He is likely to be a long-term replacement for Vardy, but the question is how long before he starts to see first team action with Leicester. Iheanancho had to wait almost 3 and a half season to have his time to shine – with Daka be as patient?
Soumare (5.0 | MID) is a defensive midfielder from Ligue 1 champions Lille.
Bertrand (5.0 | DEF) arrives on a free from Southampton and is likely to be a backup at leftback.
First Five Fixtures
Leicester have got a moderate set of fixtures to begin with. They have 3 winnable home games against Wolves, Norwich and Brighton, sandwiching tough visits to West Ham and Man City.
Leicester are a good attacking side that will score a lot of goals. The bigger question is how Rodgers will line up his men on GW01. It is advisable to keep tabs on Leicester’s friendly games.
