So, in the midst of Euro Fantasy, FPL have made an early launch this season.

Our resident columnist FPL Obsessed (Matt) have his first look at some players, identifying some early season budgets.

Robert Sanchez (Brighton – £4.5m) – YES

FPL BGW29 Free Hit

GW1-6 Fixture Rating: Good (bur/WAT/EVE/bre/LEI/cry)

With 10 CS in 27 apps, and great opening fixtures, I think Sanchez is a bargain.

However, I personally opt for two GKs from the same team, so I probably won’t be getting him because Matt Ryan is also priced at 4.5. I would probably go for another team’s set of GK in which the second GK is priced at 4.0.

Emi Martinez (Aston Villa – £5.5m) – NO

FPL Player of the Season

Fixture Rating: Average  (wat/NEW/BRE/che/EVE/mun)

I can see why many will automatically gravitate towards Martinez after an almost record-breaking performance last season but for me the increase to £5.5m prices him out. I don’t expect a repeat of last season and, for that price, I wouldn’t invest in a GK from a non-Top Six side.

Wesley Fofana (Leicester – £4.5m) – YES

GW1-6 Fixture Rating: Good (WOL/whu/nor/MCI/bha/BUR)

There are not too many standout defensive bargains this year, but this certainly seems to be one of them. Leicester are a well organised team (ranked 6th for CS last season) and £4.5m, for a nailed on defender, seems very cheap.

Ben Chilwell (Chelsea – £6m) – NO

Top FPL Defenders

GW1-6 Fixture Rating: Terrible (CRY/ars/liv/AVL/tot/MCI)

Not only have Chelsea got an awful opening run of fixtures, but I am still not too sure how nailed on Chilwell is going to be in Tuchel’s plans. For £6m, I think Chilwell is a huge risk.

Raphinha (Leeds – £6.5m) – YES

FPL DGW25 Stats

GW1-6 Fixture Rating: Poor (mun/EVE/bur/LIV/new/WHU)

Raphinha is an absolute steal at £6.5m. He has bags of talent and tons of potential. To me, this is one of the most shocking prices so far.

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City – £11m) – NO

GW1-6 Fixture Rating: Poor (tot/NOR/ARS/lei/SOU/che)

I have always been a bit lukewarm about Sterling as an FPL asset and last season helped file him under ‘never again’. I know a lot of fellow managers feel the same way, so for FPL to price him at £11m seems ridiculous to me. For just £1m more you could get Bruno, KDB or Mane.

Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester – £7.5m) – YES

FPL GW30 Review

Fixture Rating: Good  (WOL/whu/nor/MCI/bha/BUR)

Iheanacho was a gold mine for early adopters towards the end of……last season. It will be interesting to see what Leicester do as regards a new striker, because replacing Vardy must be in their short term plans, but I think this is bargain.

Roberto Firmino (Liverpool – £9m) – NO

Fixture Rating: Excellent  (nor/BUR/CHE/lee/CRY/bre)

FPL are not giving up with this one, are they? I am a Liverpool fan and hold Bobby in high regard, but he is a lousy FPL asset and is, once again priced at £9m, making him the joint 4th most expensive forward in the game. Stay clear of this one.

Other notable bargains

  • Emiliano Buendia (Aston Villa – £6.5m)
  • Ismaila Sarr (Watford – £6m)
  • Tariq Lamptey (Brighton – £4.5m)
  • Jack Grealish (Aston Villa – £8m)
