Euro Fantasy Defenders

Defenders offer great value in Euro Fantasy.

In this series, we have worked with FPL Zé, who has produced a complete set of spreadsheets covering all positions.

For defenders, FPL Ze has considered both their form for the national team and their club form for the 2020/21 season, incorporating stats like clean sheet, goals and assists.

The below is ranked by best performers per unit price.

Euro Fantasy Defenders #5 – Skriniar (SLO | 5.0)

Key Stat – 2 goals | 1 assist in his last 6 internationals

Skriniar is nailed on for Slovakia when fit and has good attacking returns for both club and country over the past season.

He won Serie A with Inter, making 39 appearances and scoring 3 goals.

There is of course concern over Slovakia’s overall quality in Euro 2020 and their ability to keep any clean sheet at all in the Group Stage. They play Poland, Sweden and Spain in that order.

Euro Fantasy Defenders #4 – Kjaer (DEN| 4.5)

Key Stat – 3 assists and 8 clean sheets in his last 18 internationals

Veteran Kjaer is Denmark’s captain and the lynchpin of their defence.

The Danes are sound at the back and faces Finland on MD1 so at this price, Kjaer is definitely worth selection.

MD2 would be tricky for Kjaer as they face Belgium, a side they lost 4-2 as recent as Nov 2020.

Kjaer also enjoyed a good season with AC Milan, keeping 11 clean sheets in 39 appearances in club football.

Euro Fantasy Defenders #3 – Rodon (WAL | 4.5)

Key Stat – 4 Clean Sheets in his last 6 internationals

FPL managers would be familiar with Spurs’ Rodon, even though the Welsh defender hardly make waves in FPL.

The 23 year-old has impressive stats with his nation, especially in the last 6 games. He is also almost nailed on starter, having started every of Wales’ competitive fixture since Nov 2020 (6).

Rodon is however, not much value in the attacking sense, having failed to register any attacking returns the whole of last season.

On MD1 Wales face a defensive minded Switzerland so is worth considering in your selection. Things get trickier afterwards, when they play Turkey on MD2 and Italy on MD3.

Euro Fantasy Defenders #2 – Wijndal (NED | 4.5)

Key Stat – 2 goals | 8 assists for club and country

Netherlands’ left-back Wijndal should be on your radar.

The Dutch have Ukraine, Austria and North Macedonia in that order and if they play well, there is possibility of 2 clean sheets in those Group games.

Wijndal is also a good pick for his attacking returns, he has 8 assists all season (for Alkmaar and Netherlands) and can be a great selection at his price, provided he starts.

Definitely track him over the friendlies.

Euro Fantasy Defenders #1 – Alioksi (MKD | 4.5)

Key Stat – 6 goals | 8 assists in 22 internationals

Alioski needs no introduction for FPL managers and his statistics at the international level is amazing.

The Leeds defender is probably North Macedonia’s best player on paper and he takes penalties and set-pieces for his nation.

We cannot expect North Macedonia to keep any clean sheets in a Group with Netherlands, Austria and Ukraine but he is worth being on your team for his attacking returns alone.

At his price he is an enabler for other positions. His current ownership is at 4% but expected to rise nearer to the tournament.
