In what seems like an eternity ago, we gathered all our editors to make Euro 2016 overall predictions 11 days ago.

Today, after the conclusion of 24 Group Stage games, we sit down to take stock on how our own editors have done thus far.

Euro 2016 winners / losing finalists

Five out of our eight editors have chosen France to win Euro 2016. The other three have predicted the French to finish as runners-up. This prediction is well in line, given that the hosts have qualified for the last 16 with much ease after two wins. The Germans were chosen by two of us and they are currently leading Group C on goal difference over neighbours Poland. Belgium were picked by one of us and they as well are well-placed to proceed to the last 16 after a solid win over the Republic of Ireland.

Verdict: At this stage, all the picks look good. At least none of the picks have been eliminated!

Surprise Package

We were then asked to pick the surprise package of the tournament. No specific definitions were agreed upon but in general we agreed that a surprise package is a team which will do very well despite not being rated highly before the tournament. Our picks were varied as eight of us chose six different teams.

Verdict: Poland and Croatia look particularly strong at this stage with four points from two games. Northern Ireland and Wales have wins in their bags as well. All in all still looking good!

Golden Boot

Five of us picked French striker Antoine Griezmann to pick up the Golden Boot. One of us picked Olivier Giroud. Both have managed a goal each for the hosts so far.

Verdict: With no one breaking clear in the goal scoring charts, both are still in line for the award. Thomas Muller and Cristiano Ronaldo are struggling at the moment though.

Golden Ball

After two matches, the standout player is France’s Dimitri Payet, who has scored twice and provided an assist. His influence to the French team has also overshadowed bigger names like Paul Pogba. Payet was one of our editors’ picks so good for him!

How about you? Any picks so far after watching 24 Group Stage games?
