At time of writing the World Cup Fantasy is well into GW2. There are two boosters and one wildcard in this game and with only a total of 7 GWs, we look at when best it is to utilise them.
- Activating your Wild Card allows you to make unlimited transfers for a Round. It must be played prior to the start of the respective Round and it can be used only once during the tournament.
- You can use your Wildcard and either of the boosters in the same round.
Firstly DO NOT forget that you are entitled to a unlimited transfer in between GW3 and GW4 in any case. Hence, if you have not already utitlised your wildcard, there is just another 4 GWs to choose from.
Playing the Wildcard is of course something quite personal in nature. If you do not believe in your current squad, it makes sense to just use the wildcard. However, we believe that it is best to utilise the wildcard in GW5 (Quarter-Finals). You would be given 3 free transfers for this GW but there is a good chance that you may not field a starting XI, depending on your GW4 selections. Using the wildcard this week also presents opportunities to continue to be able to field starting XIs for GW6 and GW7.
Booster: Maximum Captain
- This booster automatically makes the highest scoring player from your final playing 11 as the captain. This booster must be played prior to the start of the respective Round and it can be used only once during the tournament.
A quick reminder – two boosters cannot be used in the same GW.
We think that it is best to utilist the Maximum Captain Booster in GW3 (last Group Stage games). The last game of the Group Stages often present a lot more action and produces more goals. Teams with nothing to play for sometimes produces unpredictable results so it makes actually choosing the captain in this GW difficult – hence the use of Maximum Captain.
Another reason to use the Maximum Captain within the Group Stages is simple – knockout stages are more often cagey affairs with less goals.
Booster: Bench Boost
- The points of all 15 players are counted for the Round in which this booster has been played. This card must be played prior to the start of the respective Round and it can be used only once during the tournament.
Use the Bench Boost in GW4 (last 16). You would have been given a free wildcard prior to this GW so use it wisely to pick all 15 players whom will start their games. With that, Bench Boost is useful.
