Recap of Gameweek 8

After 8 Gameweeks and with the international break ongoing, it’s a good time to see which players have done well so far.

Listed below are the top 10 Goalkeepers who has the most Total Score after 8 Gameweeks. We sorted them in ascending order by their price, so that it is easier to compare which player did better  when compared against other players in the same price range. The player in bold within the list reflects his status as the one with the highest Points Per Match.

Goalkeepers

  1. Henderson (4.5m / Points Per Match = 4.1)
  2. Pope (4.7m / Points Per Match = 4.0)
  3. Ryan (4.6m / Points Per Match = 4.4)
  4. Schmeichel (5.0m / Points Per Match = 3.5)
  5. Dubravka (5.0m / Points Per Match = 3.6)
  6. Guaita (5.0m / Points Per Match = 3.8)
  7. Fabianski (5.1m / Points Per Match = 4.6)
  8. Patricio (5.1m / Points Per Match = 4.8)
  9. De Gea (5.6m / Points Per Match = 4.0)
  10. Ederson (6.1m / Points Per Match = 3.6)

We can see that if you are looking for a GK below 5.0m, Ryan has performed the best so far. And if you have De Gea but have other fires to put out within your team, it can probably wait as his Points Per Match is not too bad.

Defenders

  1. Lundstram (4.5m / Points Per Match = 4.9)
  2. Ward (4.6m / Points Per Match = 4.0)
  3. Dunk (4.6m / Points Per Match = 4.1)
  4. Pieters (4.8m / Points Per Match = 4.2)
  5. Stevens (5.0m / Points Per Match = 4.1)
  6. Van Aanholt (5.6m / Points Per Match = 4.9)
  7. Pereira (6.2m / Points Per Match = 5.0)
  8. Van Dijk (6.5m / Points Per Match = 4.1)
  9. Robertson (6.9m / Points Per Match = 4.1)
  10. Alexander-Arnold (7.2m / Points Per Match = 5.0)

It is safe to say Lundstram owners are very happy with him (1 goal, 1 assist, 3 cleansheets), more so when most managers bought him at less than 4.5m. This list also shows there are good value among the budget defenders and premium defenders.

And when comparing the 3 Liverpool premium defenders, Alexander-Arnold should be the one to go for if you can afford to pay an additional 0.7m whereas Matip (5.5m, Points Per Match = 5.0) could be an interesting differential if he is fit.

Midfielders

  1. McGinn (5.8m / Points Per Match = 4.9)
  2. Mount (6.8m / Points Per Match = 5.8)
  3. Silva (7.6m / Points Per Match = 5.0)
  4. Silva (7.9m / Points Per Match = 5.0)
  5. Mahrez (8.7m / Points Per Match = 5.8)
  6. Son (9.8m / Points Per Match = 5.8)
  7. De Bruyne (10.0m / Points Per Match = 9.0)
  8. Mane (11.7m / Points Per Match = 7.1)
  9. Sterling (12.1m / Points Per Match = 6.9)
  10. Salah (12.5m / Points Per Match = 6.9)

The amazing thing here is that Man City has 5 of the top 10 scoring midfielders. This is probably because of the 8-0 win recorded by Man City over Watford. We can also see that it pays to spend your budget on the premium midfielders, as their Points Per Match is generally much higher than the budget and mid-price midfielders. Mount offers exceptional value at 6.8m while there are not many budget midfielders less than 6.0m that has done well except for McGinn (3 goals, 1 assist).

One interesting midfielder is El Ghazi (5.5m – Points Per Match = 4.9), who could be an interesting differential.

Forwards

  1. Wesley (6.0m / Points Per Match = 5.0)
  2. King (6.3m / Points Per Match = 4.8)
  3. Pukki (7.1m / Points Per Match = 6.8)
  4. Abraham (7.7m / Points Per Match = 6.8)
  5. Wilson (7.9m / Points Per Match = 6.0)
  6. Vardy (9.0m / Points Per Match = 5.8)
  7. Firmino (9.6m / Points Per Match = 6.0)
  8. Kane (10.9m / Points Per Match = 5.8)
  9. Aubameyang (11.1m / Points Per Match = 6.9)
  10. Aguero (12.2m / Points Per Match = 7.6)

This season, there are a decent few mid-priced forwards. Looking at the Points Per Match, it seems logical to choose Abraham over C. Wilson, given that they are in the same price range. Also, if you hold Kane, you would be tempted to swap him for Vardy, who has the same Points Per Match but at a lower price.

One popular forward to highlight is Haller (7.4m – Points Per Match = 5.3). When comparing him against other mid-price forwards, it would seem that he does not offer good value at his price range.
