Premier League: the Pre-Season results ranked

Premier League clubs are flying all over the world on their pre-season tours as they prepare for another gruelling top-flight season.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham travelled to the United States, while Chelsea and Arsenal faced each other in Beijing.

Everton have played in Tanzania, Netherlands and Belgium, while Leicester City, West Brom, Crystal Palace and Liverpool contested the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong.

We have collated all the results as compiled by BBC into a table:

For the purpose of our comparison, only results and goals after 90 mins are taken into consideration. Different teams have played different number of games so points average has been used to rank them.

Key observations:

  • Overall, Premier League sides averaged 1.77 points per game in pre-season, scoring an average of 1.78 goals per game.
  • Liverpool have enjoyed a sensational run of results in pre-season, winning 6 of their 8 games, including over Bayern Munich and Atletico Bilbao. Their points average of 2.50 is the highest among all the Premier League teams.
  • Liverpool have also scored the most number of goals in total (19), although Manchester City has the highest goal per game average (2.5 goals per game).
  • Besides Liverpool, Brighton, Everton and Burnley are all undefeated in pre-season.
  • West Ham is the only Premier League team that had failed to record a win in pre-season.
  • Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Steve Mounie (Huddersfield), Tom Ince (Huddersfield) and Andre Gray (Burnley) are the top-scorers in pre-season with 4 goals apiece.
  • Champions Chelsea have endured a tough pre-season, winning one of their three matches, though that win was a convincing 3-0 win over Arsenal.
  • Watford (0.83 goals per game) and WBA (0.88 goals per game) are the lowest scorers.
  • The largest win was recorded by Brighton (6-0, vs League Two Crawley Town)
