The second international break of the season has arrived, leaving us with 8 gameweeks of action and about 13 days of emptiness. We take a pit-stop this week and analyse some of the top FPL players to date and also check out some of the top FPL managers.
Eden Hazard (CHE | MF | 11.3) – With 74pts Chelsea’s Hazard lead the way in the players arena. His haul is 14pts away from the next and has rewarded his believers (TSB = 46.7%) well. He has been involved in all 8 of Cheslea’s games so far, playing for more than 60mins of the previous 6 games. His highest Round Score was 20pts in GW05 against Cardiff and his lowest was GW06 against West Ham, though he did pick up a CS point in that game (total = 3pts). In all games but one, he has been involved in a goal, raking up 7 goals and 3 assists thus far. In terms of BP, he has accumulated 13, earning top BP in 4 games.
Outlook: Hazard is clearly unsettled, openly admitting that he is interested to join Real Madrid and stalling his contract talks. However, as a top professional we expect the Belgian not to let off steam. GW09 for Hazard is a trip to Old Trafford and United look all over the place at the moment. GW10 to GW12 are easy games for the Blues before an away game at Spurs. A must have in weeks to come, given that he is not likely to be often utilised in the Europa League.
Macros Alonso (CHE | DF | 6.9) – The Spanish defender is justifying his price-tag with a sensational season thus far (60pts). He has played every minute of every game so far and has 5 assists and 1 goal, though he has not been involved in a goal since GW04. He has also pocketed points from 4 CS. In terms of BP, Alonso has 9 and all of them coming from the first 4GW.
Outlook: As mentioned above, Chelsea has good fixtures in the next 5 GWs. 3 CS seems achievable for the Blues. Despite his price, he is a must-have in our opinion.
Sergio Aguero (MCI | FW | 11.3) – Aguero has the highest TSB (50.5%) and has accumulated 52pts, almost 40% of that haul coming in GW02 when he scored a hattrick and provided an assist. However, the striker has had his off week, scoring 2pts / 2pts / 1pt in GW01 / GW 03 / GW08. He has started every game for City this term but interestingly he has only finished in two of them. It is increasingly obvious that Pep will rest him when he believes that the game has been sealed.
Outlook: To be honest for City it doesn’t really matter who they play, they are always as likely to score. What we are concerned about is City’s involvement in the UEFA Champions League – Aguero is always likely to be rested in the Premier League. Gabriel Jesus, who has been patiently waiting in the wings, may soon get a Premier League start, as soon as GW09, when City is at home to Burnley.
Raheem Sterling (MCI | MF | 11.1) – Sterling is fourth in the FPL pts chart with 50pts but clearly not getting the attention he deserves, with a TSB of just 5.2%. He has started in 7 of City’s 8 games to date, sitting out entirely only in GW02. His highest Round Score is GW07, when he scored and assisted as well as earned points from a CS and 3 BP. Even a disappointing on the pitch performance earned him 3pts in GW08, thanks to a CS.
Outlook: We all know City has options everywhere on the pitch and Sterling is never a sure starter in any game but over a period of time, it appears to be worthwhile to have him in the team. Interestingly, what Sterling seldom does is that he hardly ever comes OFF the bench. This is good to know for FPL managers since no manager likes a 89th minute entry for a player. With that, it looks like Sterling is a good choice to have although at this price range, Hazard is overwhelmingly a better choice.
Callum Wilson (BOU | FW |6.3) – Rounding off our analysis is the surprise package of the season so far, 6.3m striker Wilson with 49pts. Wilson has 3 goals to his name but an impressive tally of 7 assists. His involvement in 10 goals over 8 GWs has already surpassed his tallies in each of the previous 3 seasons.
Outlook: Bournemouth has two good GWs coming up, vSOU and @FUL. After that, they have a nightmare run of games, playing MNU, ARS, MCI and LIV between GW11 to GW16. All said, Wilson is top value at 6.3, having him in the team frees up the cash for other top FPL players. Definitely worth a look-in.
