Nobody likes a tanking stock and it’s the same in FPL. If you had held on to a player whose value had been diminishing, it hurts your overall team value and reduces your bandwidth when you make transfers. However, just like not all that glitter is all gold, not every fallen stock is a liability.
We look at some players who had significant price falls but still worth a transfer in. Buy low, sell high, never bet on a dead horse! Don’t be a newbie and believe that class is permanent.
Chris Wood (BUR | FWD | 6.2) – Price Fall -0.3
Wood had started all 6 of Burnley games to date but it was only in GW06 that he broke his FPL duck by scoring twice. The earlier game weeks for the Clarets had but dominated by Ashley Barnes, who is now already 6.7. Tactically speaking, Burnley often play 4-4-2 and both Wood and Barnes play similar roles in the team. They have largely similar attributes and are not are both in the mix when the team pours forward.
Both Wood and Barnes have taken penalties for Burnley last season but that should not be a differing factor as they had only earned two penalties in the last two seasons in the league. Last term, Wood found the net 10 times in the Premier League; Barnes did it 12 times.
Recommendation: BUY, especially if you are choosing between him and Barnes.
Marcos Alonso (CHE | DEF | 6.2) – Price Fall -0.3
Alonso was the most expensive defender in FPL for the 2017/18 season, ending the season at 7.1. He has clearly fallen out of the pecking order under Lampard this term but an injury to Emerson has suddenly put spotlight back on himself. He did well for 75 mins against Liverpool, providing threat on the left with his marauding runs.
He look set to deputise for Emerson at least for GW07 (vBHA) and GW08 (@SOU).
Recommendation: Maybe worth a punt if you using a Free Hit on GW07, otherwise too expensive.
Gylfi Sigurdsson (EVE | MID | 7.7) – Price Fall -0.3
As Everton’s form take a hit, so has Siggy’s FPL price. His TSB has fallen from about 11% on GW01 to just under 5% for GW06. Quite simply put, he has been poor so far in the middle of the park for the Toffees, contributing only 1 assist to date. The positive thing is Siggy had previously taken all of his club’s penalties since he joined but whether he is still the number 1 for the team is a doubt at this point.
Everton entertains City at home next and have a couple of tough away games to come.
Recommendation: SELL, many other midfielders have much better value at this price point.
Diogo Jota (WOL | FWD | 6.2) – Price Fall -0.3
Wolves are in really difficult territory at the moment. They already have had a long season thanks to Europa League and are struggling for points in the Premier League, even though they have not been playing poorly. Also, it is becoming harder by the day to predict the Wolves’ lineup, their team size is larger this term and the gaffer does not seem to have found his perfect XI at the moment.
Jota had started in 5 of Wolves’ 6 games and only found the net for the first time on GW06. He was a MIDFIELDER in FPL last term which made him slightly worthwhile but as a FORWARD, his usefulness seems to have diminished.
Recommendation: MAYBE. At this price point there are few better options but there is contention that he may not start every game.
Callum Wilson (BOU | FWD | 7.8) – Price Fall -0.2
Wilson is probably a victim of his own success. He already has 40 FPL points but has seen his value fall by 0.2, More importantly, he has not “blanked” in FPL so far this term, registering at least an assist every GW.
Recommendation: STRONG BUY. Yes, Pukki and Abraham are cheaper but they may not match up in terms of consistency.
