If you are thinking of activating your wildcard soon, you will need to know the below highlights of the cheapest players in each position in FPL. Having low-priced players in your FPL team is essential to free up cash for the big guns AND the right low-priced players actually do make a key difference in your overall performance in the season.
We ran an analysis before the season started and we are refreshing our data this round.
*Players who are no longer in the Premier League have been excluded in the counts
10 goalkeepers are priced at 4.0 at the moment and Brighton’s David Button remains the managers’ favourite with a TSB of ~22%, even though he has yet to earn a point in the game to date. Norwich’s Michael McGovern is the only GK at this price to have earned points (11) and even he is now a firm second choice at the club behind Tim Krul.
A differential pick here is West Ham’s David Martin. He is officially the third choice at the club but Fabianski is out long term and Roberto is really struggling so there is an outside chance Martin may enter the fray sooner rather than later. He is highly experienced, even though he has never played in the Premier League before.
A single player – West Ham’s Winston Reid – is priced at 3.9, the lowest of any player in the game. He has yet to play a game since March 2018 and extremely unlikely to do so in the next few months. 14 other defenders are priced at 4.0 and the most popular of them is Bournemouth’s Jack Simpson (~6.3%) – like Button he has yet to score a point.
A very interesting pick in this lot in the next few months is Manchester United’s Brandon Williams. He made his debut in GW11 and played the entire match in GW12 at left back. United have many injuries at the back and Luke Shaw is likely to be out for a while more so William is an interesting pick.
Leicester’s Matty James is priced at 4.3, the lowest priced midfielder in the game. His last league game is Mar 2018 and again, he is not likely to feature any time soon.
18 other midfielders are priced at 4.4 and the most popular is Wolves’ Leander Dendoncker, who is a regular starter and have 23 points to his name. Also popular is Newcastle’s Isaac Hayden, is at ~4% TSB. He is a regular starter at the club and already has 22pts to his name but his managers will remember his -2 on GW07 when he was sent off in the first half.
Another interesting pick is Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakamba, who has started his side’s last 7 games. He is however, a very defensive minded midfielder.
For forwards, United’s Mason Greenwood is the sole player at 4.3. He is owned by 10.6% of the FPL managers and have 9 pts (from 9 substitute appearances). He is the next big thing coming out from Old Trafford so he maybe get a Premier League start soon enough.
3 other forwards are priced at 4.4 and none of them look likely to start any Premier League games soon.
