Forwards score the goals and are likely to be the priciest asset in your team. They also make viable captains so choose wisely.
- Lionel Messi (ARG | 12.0)
The 3 super stars of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar are the 3 most expensive players in the game at 12.0 so in all likelihood, you can only afford one of the three. Messi gets my pick though it was a tough call to make. My rationale is that Portugal is not as reliant on CR7 and Neymar is not 100% fit. Messi, however, has the entire national side built around him and will be pivotal to every Argentine move.
- Edison Cavani (URU | 9.5)
Uruguay will probably do very well in a very easy group and I fancy Cavani over Luis Suarez because of his price and the fact that Cavani is a more natural goal-scorer. He is definitely a top candidate to captain in GW1, especially since he plays on day 2 and can be relieved should he falter.
- Gabriel Jesus (BRA | 9.0)
It should be either Firmino OR Jesus who starts for Brazil in their opening game but Jesus gets our nod because, like Cavani, he is a more natural goal-getter. Brazil should score plenty of goals in the Group Stages and Jesus will be a player to keep for all 3 GWs.
- Javier Hernandez (MEX | 8.5)
Chicharito may have endured an indifferent season in the Premier League but he is still a talisman when it comes to the national team. Mexico have always the ability to progress from the Group Stages and goals will come from this man.
- Aleksandar Mitrovic (SRB | 7.5)
Mitrovic has been on fire for the Serbs in the warm-ups, scoring 5 goals over 3 games. He will lead the line- the catch is that Serbia is in a relatively tough group and goals may not be free flowing.
- Alfred Finnbogason (ISL | 6.5)
Some have picked Iceland to spring another major surprise this World Cup and if that happens Finnbogason will definitely be among the goals. The German-based forward is a regular goal scorer in the Bundesliga (22 goals in 3 seasons) and will be the outlet for Icelandic attacks. A steal at this price and can help you free up cash for the rest of your squad.
- Gabriel Torres (PAN | 6.0)
OK, granted, Panama is not likely to progress from the Group Stages but if they do score, Torres will be involved. At 6.0, he is one of the few guaranteed starts and again, a good third striker to have should you decide to have a stronger squad in other departments.
