FF Titans Spotlight: Premier League Records Liverpool can still break this season

It has of course been a sensational season for Liverpool thus far, amassing 48 points before Christmas. We all know that this is the club’s best start to a league season ever but what are the few Premier League records that the Reds can still break this season?

============

  • Record: Least number of defeats by a team in a season – 0
  • Record Holders: Arsenal (2003/04)

The “Invincibles” achieved an unbeaten season in 2004, winning 26 games and drawing 12. Liverpool remains the only unbeaten team in the current season and have 20 games more to stay unbeaten to match that of that great Arsenal team.

  • Record: Longest unbeaten run – 49 games
  • Record Holders: Arsenal (2014)

Arsenal’s eventual unbeaten run stretched three different seasons. Liverpool’s current run is 20 games and need to be stay unbeaten until sometime around November 2019 to have a chance of breaking this record.

  • Record: Most number of PL wins in a season – 32
  • Record: Most PL points in a season – 100
  • Record Holders: Manchester City (2017/18)

City’s 32 wins an haul of 100pts last season was quite amazing – they had only failed to win 6 of their games in the season. At the half way mark, Liverpool is actually on track to at least equal the number of wins if they can repeat their performances in the first half of the season. On the points front, Liverpool have 51pts after 19 games and on track to hit 102pts.

  • Record: Fewest goal conceded at home in a PL Season – 4
  • Record Holders: Manchester United (1994/95)

Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United conceded just 4 goals at Old Trafford in 1994/95 over the course of their 19 home games. Liverpool have thus far conceded just 2 goals in their 9 home games and are on track to equal United’s long standing record.

  • Record: Fewest goal conceded in a PL Season – 15
  • Record: Most clean sheets in a season – 25
  • Record Holders: Chelsea (2004/05)

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea set the benchmark of defensive work, conceding just 15 goals on route to winning the title in 2005. More impressively, they have 25 clean sheets that season, having conceded in just 13 games. Liverpool has 12 clean sheets at the halfway mark, conceding just 7 goals. The Reds are also on track to break this record.

  • Record: Biggest PL title-winning margin – 19
  • Record Holders: Manchester City (2017/18)

Pep’s City steamrolled everyone and won the league title by 19 points last term. They also won it with 5 games to spare, the joint fastest time to seal a title. Liverpool naturally will have the opportunity to break this record as well, but for all the Reds fans, the margin of any title win is perhaps not as important as winning the title itself.
