Here are 5 talking points ahead of FPL Gameweek 18.
- Liverpool vs West Ham
In case you missed it, the Liverpool vs West Ham fixture has been postponed. Not many of us will have West Ham assets, so that should not be a problem. Salah has outscored Mane for the last 2 gameweek, and managers are wondering if they should make the switch. No games for Liverpool players should help to delay the decision for 1 more week. However, for the more adventurous managers, they can actually consider selling Mane to free up funds to buy players like De Bruyne, Son, Alli if they don’t have them. Managers with Liverpool defenders could also see if they can downgrade the likes of VVD, TAA and Robertson and upgrade other parts of their squad. For reference, Liverpool’s games from GW19 onwards look like this – @LEI, WOL, SHU, @TOT, MUN, @WOL.
- De Bruyne
After his massive 19 points in Gameweek 17, managers who don’t have him will be panicking. Of course, this is partly due to the Arsenal defence being all over the place right now, but we see the main reason for his massive score is because of the fact he played as part of the front 3 instead of at centre midfield. Nobody knows what Pep will do with him in the game against Leicester, but if he keeps his place in the front 3, he will be the best asset that cost over 10m.
- Spurs vs Chelsea
This should be a cracking game. Both sides are gunning for a Top 4 spot and Jose is facing his former side. Since Jose is appointed as Spurs manager, they have scored 14 goals in 5 PL games. Coupled with the fact that Chelsea likes to play attacking football under Lampard, we see goals in this game.
- Man United
Man United inconsistent season sees them beating the likes of Chelsea, Leicester, Man City, Tottenham but drawing against Everton in their last home game. Their next game is away at bottom side Watford but you can’t help but wonder if they prefer a trip to one of the Top 6 side instead. Rashford is the only player worth getting from the Man United squad and if you own him, you will be hoping that the trend is buckled. They also have decent fixtures coming up during the festive period – @WAT, NEW, @BUR, @ARS.
- The most important question – Who to captain for Gameweek 18?
This is the most important question, and the hardest to answer since the start of the season. Vardy is the top scorer among all players with 16 goals and 5 assists but he faces a tough fixture away at Man City, which is not among the best defences this season. De Bruyne, if he plays in the front 3 would be a good pick but nobody can second guess what Pep will do. Rashford could be a popular choice but Man United has been inconsistent all season. We expect goals in Spurs vs Chelsea fixture, but who from Kane, Son, Alli and Abraham to captain will be tricky. Jimenez would be a left field choice but Norwich has improved defensively since the return of Zimmermann. Perhaps what is certain is that there is good logic for picking any of the above-mentioned players, but the managers who gets the captain pick right this week could soar up the rankings.
