2016 AFF Suzuki Cup | MD5 picks

Indonesia overcame a tough Vietnam side to take a 2-1 lead going into the 2nd leg of the semi-finals while hot favourites Thailand continued their sensational form as they beat hosts Myanmar 2-0.

MD5 in our 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup features the 2nd legs of the semi-finals.

Vietnam VS Indonesia

Vietnam did not do much wrong against the Indonesians in Jakarta and were perhaps  unlucky to return to Hanoi with a draw. This tie is of course far from over and we can expect Vietnam to attack from the whistle. Le Cong Vinh is naturally our first pick and our choice of captain as well here. He was instrumental when his side won the AFF Suzuki Cup back in 2008 and will need to be at his best again here. Nguyan Van Quyet is the first choice penalty taker and definitely worth a pick as well. At the back, GK Tran Nguyan Manh is the second highest points scoring GK in our game thus far and the Vietnamese are in a good position to keep a clean sheet here. In defence, Vu Van Thanh and Que Ngoc Hai are quality picks.

For the visiting Garudas, look no further than captain Boaz Solossa. Even if Indonesia loses the overall tie, he is still a good bet for a goal here. Midfielders Rizky Ripora and Andik Vermansyah have been in good form.

Thailand VS Myanmar

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to see past the Thais for this fixture. They have a comfortable lead but expect them to take this game professionally, continue to pile the pressure and get a couple more goals. We can expect the Thais to pretty much start with a strong XI then take some key players off in the latter stages. Teerasil Dangda is a must have but perhaps not a captain choice. Midfielders Sarawut Masuk and Chanathip Songkrasin are good players to pack your midfield with. The Thais are well capable of a clean sheet here so GK Kawin Thamsatchanan is a natural pick + captain choice. Pack the rest of your squad with Thai defenders like Koravit Namwiset, Theerathon Bunmathan, Tanaboon Kesarat and Adison Promrak.

For the visiting Myanmar, they will try their best to score early and pressure the Thais but the gulf in standard is way too far apart here. Aung Thu is worth a shout and maybe defender Zaw Min Tun as he is a threat going forward on set-pieces.
